1. The principle of TFM phased array detection

During TFM detection each single array element of N-array of ultrasonic array probe is excited in turn all array elements are received at the same time after traversing and exciting all array elements N * N A-type echoes will be collected that is full matrix data . Using TFM phased array imaging detection only need to set the detection area range eliminating the cumbersome setting of phased array focusing rule greatly improving the convenience of detection application.

2. TFM phased array detection method probe and scanning tool for Rim

The simulation of the TFM phased array inspection of the wheel rim is carried out by taking the outline dimension of a certain wheel as an example. The placement of the phased array probe is consistent with that of the conventional inspection mainly on the wheel tread and the inner side of the wheel flange. According to the requirement of coverage we can design a special phased array probe with a large number of elements for full coverage detection. Rim detection adopts the mode of full focus primary longitudinal wave.

When the probe is placed on the tread the following detection scheme can be adopted: the overall size of the automatic crawling scanner matches the wheel rim of HXD1 locomotive. It is mainly composed of front drive rear drive magnetic wheel probe fixed structure adjustment structure encoder component and encoder wheel as shown in Figure 4.

The automatic crawling scanner is equipped with a 64-element linear array phased array probe specially designed for the wheel rim of HXD1 Electric Locomotive as shown in Figure 5. The lower surface of the array probe is a special curved surface design which fits the wheel rim tread of the locomotive completely. In the working process of the scanner the external water tank system is used for automatic water spray coupling to ensure that the entire scanning process is in the optimal coupling state and to maximize the scanning detection effect.
