1. Detection scheme for shell castings

For special-shaped shell casting when using the RT inspection it was found that there was porosity in the front side of the shell casting which was evaluated as CC type porosity Class IV defect and there was no defect in the back side of the shell casting.

The CTS-PA322T a phased array TFM real-time 3D ultrasonic imaging system developed by our company can customize the total focus model and achieve effective total focus (TFM) detection of special materials.

2. Detection system for shell castings

The phased array TFM real-time 3D ultrasonic imaging system CTS-PA322T is a new 64-channel fully parallel phased array total-focus (TFM) real-time ultrasonic imaging detection system independently developed by our company. The system collects full-matrix (FMC) data in real time and uses the high-speed hardware imaging technology based on the signal processing element to achieve the high-precision real-time phased array 2D / 3D total focus (TFM) imaging detection of metal and non-metal materials. The first industrial phased array RF metadata platform can directly process the complete original data by computer.

3. Detection conclusion of shell casting

Front side of shell casting:

Rear side of shell casting:

Inspection image of rear side of shell casting

According to the inspection image of the shell casting it can be seen directly on the front side of the shell casting that the middle part of the front side of the shell casting presents a dense structure composed of concentrated voids and small spots and mainly the voids. It is preliminarily judged that there are loose defects in the front side of the shell casting and no defects on the rear side of the shell casting.

Compared with RT inspection the two results are basically consistent which shows that our phased array TFM real-time 3D ultrasonic imaging system CTS-PA322T has accurate inspection imaging capabilities and inspection effectiveness in the application of casting inspection.
